A little Light and Space go a long way {SMT} Beaverton Toddler Photographer

I don’t know about you, but I always have high expectations when it comes to how my day is going to go, and when I’m thinking about photographing my Little, they’re even higher. Whether it’s time to get all dressed up for the professional session or just a few snaps in the afternoon to capture the new milestones – it turns out a lot harder than anticipated. Sometimes at the end of the day I find myself weighing this option: will my husband come home to a) a pretty wife (ie actually get dressed and fix my hair) b) a clean home or c) none of the above. When I wanted to take pictures of Henry in his Halloween costume it was no different. Thanks to being a younger cousin, H had four options for a costume this year! The problem? He didn’t want anything to do with any of them. Blast.

After a lot of tears, Mommy and Daddy, and a final zip, he was our cute little monkey. I my ideal world I would have had all my gear set up: Back drop, lights, etc. But instead I made do with two important factors:

1) Good light

2) empty space

Both of these things happen morning-late afternoon in front of my living room window. So I cleared a spot {unpacking from a move is a NEVER ENDING TASK}, took a deep breath and plopped him down. Here are a few of my favorites from my sick little monkey:

Here are a couple of pictures Henry took, his favorite things of course: Cars and bananas.

And lastly, a quick look at the space I used. Whether you’re taking pictures of your own kids or considering a lifestyle session in your home, remember this: Good light and a little space go a long way. 🙂
